Welcome to the VableAI docs

AI that acts,
not just answers.

We're glad you're here. These docs show you how to add an agent to your product that sees the page your users are on and helps them get things done, by chat or voice.

Core concepts

Teach it your product

A few small pieces of code tell the agent what it can do, what it can see and where to stop.

Give it actions

Declare what the agent can do. It decides when to call your handler based on what the user asks.

Define an intent
import { useIntent, IntentParameter } from "@vableai/react";
useIntent({
name: "addToCart",
description: "Add a product to the shopping cart",
parameters: {
productId: IntentParameter.string({
description: "The ID of the product to add",
required: true,
}),
},
onIntent: ({ productId }) => {
CartService.add(productId, 1);
},
});
Under the hood

How a request becomes an action

  1. 01

    Your app registers

    Intents and intent states go to the widget.

  2. 02

    A user asks

    “Add two of these to my cart.”

  3. 03

    The agent decides

    It reads the message and picks an intent.

  4. 04

    Your code runs

    onIntent fires in the user's browser.

  5. 05

    The agent replies

    The user hears back in the chat.

Make it yours

Give your agent a face

Swap the Chat button for a robot at the bottom center of the page. Pick one to try it.

A hand-drawn outline

<script
id="vable-js"
src="https://js.vable.ai/vable.js"
data-public-key="<replace_with_public_key>"
data-robot="ink"
async>
</script>

Live in under five minutes

  1. 01

    Get your public key

    Create a project in the dashboard and copy its key from the Install page.

  2. 02

    Add the widget

    Drop in the SDK for your stack. The agent appears on your site, ready to chat or talk.

  3. 03

    Teach it your product

    Share your routes and intents so it can move around your app and call your code.

$ npm install @vableai/react

import { Vable } from "@vableai/react/init";
function App() {
return (
<Vable publicKey="<replace_with_public_key>">
{/* your app */}
</Vable>
);
}

FAQ

Questions you might have

Can I stop the agent from pressing certain buttons?

Yes. Add data-vable-no-op to a control, or to a parent to cover everything inside it. The agent will ask the user to do it themselves.

Do my users need to sign in?

No, anonymous visitors can use the widget. In React and Vue, you can pass an access token to greet signed-in users by name and save their details with new conversations.

Does VableAI call my APIs?

No. Actions run in the user's browser through intents, so they use the session your app already has.

Does the agent see what onIntent returns?

No, it only learns that the intent was sent. If it needs to know the outcome, expose it with useIntentState.

Can I change how the widget looks?

Yes. In React, set your colors with theme or fix light or dark mode with presetTheme. You can also swap the Chat button for a robot, or use your own image.
